A two-days workshop on sound planning, development and preparation of risk management and climate change adaptation projects was held in Brussels on 21-22 October 2014.

 

The meeting was attended by 50 participants from Member States' authorities, representatives of the European Commission and JASPERS partners.

The JASPERS Networking Platform was created to complement JASPERS project advisory operations by implementing knowledge sharing and targeted capacity building activities, as well as fostering dissemination of good practices and exchange of experiences among JASPERS Stakeholders.

The Networking Platform is open to relevant authorities from all EU Member States, as well as pre-accession Countries.

The workshop aimed at to raising awareness on the sound planning, development and preparation of risk management and climate change adaptation projects under the relevant thematic objective: “Promoting Climate Change Adaptation, Risk prevention and Management” and the fulfilment of the ex-ante conditionality “the existence of national or regional risk assessments for disaster management, taking into account climate change adaptations”, with a specific focus on the Water sector.

The main target audience of the workshop were relevant authorities in Member States dealing with the planning, preparation and implementation of Water Infrastructure and related Risk Management projects.

 

The workshop was organised into two main sessions:

A first session covering the key features and requirements linked to the implementation of the relevant thematic objective and ex-ante conditionality, and highlighting good practice principles of climate change risk planning both at the national and regional level.

A second session focused on the presentation of selected project case studies as a basis to discuss opportunities to incorporate good practices in the sector.

Presentations of the case studies were followed by an interactive session and lively debate, including interesting exchange of experiences among participants.

The seminar was very well received by the participants, who provided positive feedback on the relevance of the topics addressed, and expressed an interest in follow-up events and capacity building activities.
